The fist lesson introduces Sts to basic greetings and the I and you forms of the verb be in affiative and negative sentences, questions, and short answers. The context is two college students who meet – fist as they are moving into their apartments, and then again in a classroom. The
activities in the lesson help Sts get to know each other’s names. In Vocabulary, Sts learn numbers 0-10 and days of the week. In Pronunciation, they are introduced to the concept of word stress through two-syllable words that either appear in the lesson or are “international” words. They also see the American English File system of teaching
the sounds of English.
